Cracking the Creative Entrance Code
Every year, thousands of students compete for limited seats across India's top fashion design academies including NIFT, NID, and Shittal's Institute of Fashion. Candidates often spend months memorizing general knowledge while neglecting what evaluators actually look for: creative intuition, observation acuity, and three-dimensional material intelligence.
1. The Anatomy of Creative Ability Tests (CAT)
The Creative Ability Test evaluates your ability to perceive the world and reinterpret everyday objects into innovative design solutions. Typical prompts ask candidates to design a functional travel bag inspired by a tortoise shell or draw a futuristic wedding lehenga incorporating recycled ocean plastics.
2. Acing the Personal Interview & Portfolio Round
When you sit before the interview panel, the faculty wants to see your passion, work ethic, and ability to take constructive criticism. Keep your portfolio clean, bring a physical sketchbook filled with raw observational doodles, and be prepared to explain the rationale behind your fabric choices. For comprehensive entrance and portfolio mentoring, enroll in SIF's Master Diploma Program, attend our Portfolio Coaching Webinar, or schedule an in-person Direct Admission Evaluation.
